This readme file accompaies the IEDICT Interlingua-English dictionary project.

The purpose of the IEDICT project is to create an electronic Interlingua-English dictionary in the form of a single Unicode (UTF8) text file with the following format :

"Interlingua : English" (i.e. Interlingua entry, space, colon, space, English definition - one entry per line).

The simple formatting is designed to faciliate the integration of the IEDICT dictionary into other applications (which is highly encouraged).

One of the main purposes of this project is to make a large, comprehensive, and updatable Interlingua-English dictionary available to the public in a wide variety of formats and applications. To this end, IEDICT (Interlingua-English Dictionary) by Paul Denisowski is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License. History : Based on the experiences I had with the CEDICT (Chinese-English dictionary) project I started in the late 1990s, I decided to do something similar for Interlingua. The core of this dictionary was made up of vocabulary lists I created from various Interlingua textbooks as well as word lists I found on the Internet. The dictionary was then augmented by vocabulary lists I made from reading both print and online sources. In the early part of 2011 I believed that the dictionary had reached a sufficient size (about 30,000 entries) and I went through the dictionary from start to finish trying to catch the most obvious errors, formatting issues, etc. Any remaining errors or issues (and I'm sure there will always be some) are of course my own responsibility.

My goal is to continue to add to this dictionary on a regular basis, as well as to integrate any contributions made by the community at large. Contributions were a major factor in the growth of the CEDICT project and are warmly welcome. Please also see the release history at the end of this file.

If you have any questions, comments etc. about the project, the dictionary, please send them to me at paul@denisowski.org and I will answer them as quickly as I am able. For more information about Interlingua, please visit www.interlingua.com
